Designs You Could Consider When Renovating Your Kitchen

Mila Legrand

Kitchen renovations tend to be a costly affair. This is why it is prudent to have an idea of what you would like your remodeled kitchen to look like, rather than simply playing things by ear. There are a myriad of designs to choose from, so you can rest assured you can find something to suit your functional needs as well as personal preferences. Here are some of the kitchen designs you could consider when enlisting contractors for your kitchen renovation.

Mediterranean designs

Mediterranean designs are inspired by the Mediterranean sea. They are reminiscent of designs that you would find in either the Italian or the French Riviera. Mediterranean kitchens are characterized by splashes of colour and loads of natural lighting. If you would like this type of kitchen design, opt for blues, yellows and greens as part of your colour palette. Glass splashbacks and glass mosaics on your kitchen's walls could make it all the more authentic. Large, sliding French windows will provide you with adequate natural lighting,

Country designs

This type of design is reminiscent of farmhouse kitchens. They are best suited for homeowners who would like a classic kitchen that is homely and warm. The main characteristics of this type of kitchen design include rows of open shelves, timber doors and cabinetry and a large enameled sink, typically white in colour. Opting for this type of kitchen designs brings the warmth of the countryside right into your home.

Rustic designs

This type of design should not be mistaken for a country kitchen. Rustic kitchens tend to have an outdoorsy flair and are characterized by elements that look somewhat "unfinished". Some of the hallmarks that you could incorporate into this type of kitchen design include benchtops made from distressed timber, large sinks made from copper, copper faucets and basically any fittings that appear to be made from raw materials rather than being finished during the manufacturing process.

Modern designs

The key characteristic of modern kitchen designs is minimalism. Space is considered a premium, therefore all your cabinetry should be flush against the walls rather than jutting out when being opened and closed. Another thing to consider when opting for modern kitchen designs is stainless steel. This material is sleek and shiny and adds to the overall minimalist look by providing clean lines for your kitchen. For your benchtops opt for engineered stone that would complement the stainless steel in your kitchen.

About Me
From Ordinary to Extraordinary: Remodeling Ideas

Salutations! My name is Donna, and this is my remodelling blog. On this blog, I plan to write about everything, from hiring remodelling contractors, to doing the work yourself, to choosing the finishing touches to complement your project. My writing draws from my experience remodelling my first home, and I also plan to include some of the research I have done on this topic as well. I am a mum for four kids who are all grown, and my first grandchild is on the way soon. I love to knit, quilt and spin. I also love to read design magazines and spend time in nature. Thanks for reading.
